Chairperson's Welcome

What a great pleasure it is for me to be able to welcome you to Otago – and to the Otago Museum.

We are thrilled to be hosting you for such a major and important gathering of people who have much of value to share with each other. I know that the members of our great team at the Otago Museum are very much looking forward to making sure your visit to Otago is not only professionally productive – but also enjoyable. Our Museum is home to many very special collection items and experiences, and I expect you will especially enjoy taking time out amongst the butterflies and other creatures in our delightful Tropical Forest.

I strongly recommend that you allow plenty of time while you are in this part of the world to soak up the fabulous array of sights. Dunedin and the South are blessed not only with natural beauty but also with many other wonderful attractions. I myself can personally recommend visiting Te Anau and Fiordland – areas of breathtaking scenic beauty where I enjoy holidaying.

I do so look forward to meeting each and every one of you, and welcoming you in person to ASPAC 2010. See you soon!

Chair, Otago Museum Trust Board

The ASPAC 2010 twist draws on several elements to draw together the essence of ASPAC 2010.

SOUTHERN TREASURE: The twist’s colours and shape evoke pounamu, or New Zealand jade – a special treasure of the South.

FRIENDSHIP: The twist is drawn from a popular shape for pounamu pendants – the infinity symbol, representing ongoing friendship.

INTERTWINING: ASPAC 2010 seeks to facilitate sharing of the collective knowledge of the Asia Pacific Science Centre community and experience, drawing on each other for inspiration and ideas.

GROWTH: Like living plants, ASPAC 2010 delegates will have the opportunity to grow, cross fertilise, and extend out our tendrils to each other.
