President's Message

The 2010 ASPAC conference at Discovery World Otago Museum in New Zealand will be a wonderful occasion for our membership to come together once again.

We have much to learn from each other. I am delighted that the team at the Otago Museum has recognised the importance of the skills and information we each hold about making science centres successful and has structured a programme which maximises our ability to share with each other. I am particularly excited by the introduction of forums which encourage many speakers from many centres to speak about their own experiences.

The conference theme of share, learn, grow, together is very dear to me – as it is with the support of each other than we have become who we are and will be in the future.

The opportunity to travel to the beautiful country of New Zealand and to visit picturesque Dunedin is too good to miss. The added attraction of Queenstown for the final conference sessions is a true bonus for us all – and my gratitude to the Otago Museum for taking on the challenges of making this possible.

I hope to see you all in New Zealand for the 2010 ASPAC. It is our participation as a sector which makes any conference successful, and we are being so warmly welcomed and encouraged to do so by our friends in Dunedin.

Please come together for what will be an exciting and vibrant conference for us all!

ASPAC President

The ASPAC 2010 twist draws on several elements to draw together the essence of ASPAC 2010.

SOUTHERN TREASURE: The twist’s colours and shape evoke pounamu, or New Zealand jade – a special treasure of the South.

FRIENDSHIP: The twist is drawn from a popular shape for pounamu pendants – the infinity symbol, representing ongoing friendship.

INTERTWINING: ASPAC 2010 seeks to facilitate sharing of the collective knowledge of the Asia Pacific Science Centre community and experience, drawing on each other for inspiration and ideas.

GROWTH: Like living plants, ASPAC 2010 delegates will have the opportunity to grow, cross fertilise, and extend out our tendrils to each other.
